Healthy Relationship 3 C's

The 3 C's are:
Communication
Cooperation
Compromise

1.How would you portray a normal relationship versus an abnormal relationship using these categories?
I think a normal relationship is not a perfect one. And I think the difference of a normal relationship over an abnormal relationship is, there are hard times, and there are problems that are going to take time to get over. But, I also think that a normal relationship is engaging, and you talk things out. One person doesn't come over the other one, but there are lots of times where one gets to work for the other one. A word that comes to mind is a "Team", a normal relationship works like a team.

2.Think about a group of people that weathered a difficult time together and came out closer and had a stronger bond because of it. List the healthy ways they worked through the problem that made the end successful. How did they utilize the 3 C's?
They tried really hard not to loose their tempers, and when they did, the others forgave them. They knew and understood that no one is perfect and everyone falls short. There was lots of talking, and there was lots of communication, not just in words. They handled their situation with patience and kindness. Understanding and loving.

Substance Abuse

1.What risks are associated with substance abuse?
Aggressive behavior
Early persistent behavior
Risk takers
High sensation seeking

2.What does Figure 1 graph show?
The graph showed the perception of risk from having 5 or more drinks of alcohol once or twice a week, and the past month binge.

3.Were these results surprising to you? Why or why not?
I think what was the most surprising to me, was where the age group was around. 12 years to 17 years. It's sad to think of how young youth, and even children are around this kinda thing, and are just used to it. Like it's the normal thing to do.

4.Why do you think males are more likely to abuse marijuana than females?
I really don't know. I looked up a few articles and they weren't clear as to a reason why males are more likely to abuse marijuana.

5.At what age would you think most teens are likely to have their first illegal substance abuse?
I think in this day and in this age, young. Like 13 or 14. But all these reports, figures and graphs are suggesting that they are 12. And even younger.

6.What does Figure 3 say?
Figure 3 is the perception of risk from smoking marijuana once or twice a week and past month marijuana use

7.Are you surprised by this? Why or why not?
Again, I'm surprised at what the young age is. 12- 17. That is just so young in my mind. And then on top of the age, the times that is used each month. That is what is surprising to me.

NSDUH Report

1.Why is age appropriate, credible, and accurate information about the harm associated with substance abuse important?
To know what we are getting ourselves into. There are age regulations and such because there are effects that come with substances, and if they are started to early, that is just a bad path that one is headed down.

2.Summarize the findings of the report in 100-200 words.
Due to reports, figures and graphs that have been taken, there is a large percent of youth and children, aged from twelve to seventeen who have perceived to have a great risk from having five or more alcoholic drinks once, twice, or even more a week. The number has increased exceptionally over the past few years.
Not only do these reports show the percentage of adolescents binging and partaking in substances, but is shows the perceptions of the risk involved. Youth have a high risk in using substances. The reports hopefully will make youth and adolescents aware of the risk, and other occurrences that can happen.

Fitness Tips

1. What is "holding you back" from implementing an exercise program?
I actually am working on a exercise program right now. But before that, I think the main thing that was stopping me, was I hate sweating. I don't like feeling hot and sticky, and I felt like, what difference is it really going to make. But once I started, I realize there is a big difference in how I feel, in how I sleep, it just makes a difference.

2. What does moderate exercise feel like?
Moderate exercise is when you are breathing a little heavier than you normally do, but are not out of breath. Your body feels warmer as you move, but you're not overheated and your body feels like you were working.

3. List tips to move more during your daily life that you learned from the article.
Look for ways to walk more. With the little in and out things, don't take the easiest route. Make it so you are working your body more.

4. Which tips could help you start or continue to exercise?
I think the biggest one is take it slow. I've always been one to shoot for the stars, but sometimes things work out better when you take them in small increments.

Internet/Social Media Safety

1.What risks are associated with sharing your information via a social network?
There are people who will take advantage of the information. And try and manipulate you into sharing more. There can be unwanted contact, threats and odd behaviors towards others and from others.

2.What are steps you can take to protect your computer?
Constantly checking for viruses. Make sure you are the one in charge of the computer.

3.Define online grooming
Using the internet to manipulate and gain the trust of a minor, or other, as a step towards sexual abuse, etc. It is where the groomer may appear as a trusted peer or caring older person, when it is not the instance at all.

4.Which 3 of the "guidelines for young people" do you think are most important?
 -Keep personal information with yourself
-Keep your security software up-to-date
-Be smart when using a cell phone

5. How much access should parents have to their children's social networking sites?
I think that parents should be able to look at their child's social network site with out the youth feeling like they have something to hide. They should be able to be "Friends" and see what the child is posting.

1.What can you learn from Amanda's tragic story?
To watch what you put on the internet, and who is watching. Make your social media's private so you can see who is watching your stuff. To not let bullying go unnoticed. To not share what shouldn't be on the internet, or with people you don't fully know.

Hands Only CPR

1.Write the steps of Hands-Only CPR
1. Ask if they are okay. Check for a response
2. Look, Listen and Feel for any signs of breathing
3.Call 911 and locate an AED
4. Perform by pushing hard and fast in the center of the chest at a rate of 100 beats/per minute
5. Don't stop till medical assistance or an AED arrives

2.Write a paragraph about why knowing Hands-Only CPR is important and how it could impact your future.

Knowing hands-only CPR is important because one day I may save someone's life. I will have a knowledge of hands-only CPR, so if I am a bystander and see someone in need, I will know the proper steps to perform the CPR. It will also be a good thing to know for myself, so when that time comes and I need to assist a person with hands-only CPR, I will not panic and fear of what I am supposed to be doing. I will have courage in myself to perform hands-only CPR. For me personally, it is important to know CPR because I babysit and watch younger children, and I don't want to hesitate with performing CPR.

Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR)

1. Define BMR.
BMR is a measure of your "resting burn rate". It is the number of calories you burn in a day without taking in account of exercise.

2. What is your estimated BMR?
My estimated BMR according to the BMR calculator is 1337.35

3. What does this information mean to you?
To be honest, this information on my BMR doesn't mean a whole lot. Other than it telling me the number of calories to take in a day if I want to keep my current body weight.

4. What does BMR not take into account?
Genetics
Your activity
What kind of foods you eat
Your health
Body composition

5. How can you use this information?
I can use this information to maintain my caloric intake, if I want to lose or gain weight. I can use this information as the foundation of my caloric intake and my exercise. Understanding that each individual is different, so that I may need to exercise more than another person might.

Peer Pressure

1. List some benefits of increasing the number and quality of friendships during adolescent teen years.
They are a key to development. They provide a safe venue where the youth can explore and find who they are, and they feel accepted. They also allow youth to build social skills for the future.

2. What fears do parents face as their teens become more independent and more focused on their relationships with friends as opposed to them(their parents)?
Fall under negative peer influence, and reject their families' values and beliefs.

3. List examples of positive peer pressure.
-Follow rules
-Respect others
-Punctuality
-Stop bad habits
-Uplifting activities
-Postponing dating
-non underage drinking

4. List examples of negative peer pressure.
-Starting in drugs or drinking
-Vandalism
-Bullying
-Disrespectful language
-Misuse and disrespect of authority
-Manipulation
-Attitude towards other people
-Wear certain clothing
-Listen to specific music

5. Do you agree with the statement below? Why or why not?
"While it seems that teens are influenced by their peers, parents continue to be the most influential factor in their lives."
I do agree with it. Because the parents gave the youth, the child their start. Youth seem to have the same views as their parents. And especially when the relationship is positive, that seeps into other relationships outside of parent-child relationships.

7. List and describe 4 strategies to cope with peer pressure.
   1. Nurture teens' abilities and self esteem: with positive self-concept and self-worth will be stronger in facing the temptations of following negative pressure and influences. And it can be essential in aspects of development positively
   2. Encourage positive relationships between significant adults and teens: A positive and constructive relationship between teens and parents, teachers, or professionals can prove to be good models. And youth can develop positive qualities about themselves.
   3. Equip youth with skills to resist negative behaviors: help youth analyse and see a situation to make the proper decisions. Help them to see the positive and the negative sides in decisions.
   4. Teach youth exit strategies or ways to say NO: Talk to youth about potential scenarios, and think them through together.

Self-Concept & Self-Esteem

1. Do you agree with the opening/heading sentence?

I definitely agree with the heading, "Instead of purchasing programs to enhance self-esteem, principals should focus on helping students develop their strengths in a supportive environment", because I think that we receive more self-esteem from the interaction from those that we associate with, from those that we know.

2. Describe the difference between Self-Esteem and Self-Concept
Self-esteem is a persons overall evaluation of self. Including feelings in general happiness and satisfaction.
Self-concept is an idea of the self, constructed from the beliefs one holds about oneself and the responses of others.

3. How has your self-concept grown in the past 2 years
I think that over the past two years, I have been more decisive in who I want to be, who I am becoming, and where I want to go. And I think that it has helped my self-concept grow, because I have become more comfortable with who I am. And with that comfort, the responses I get are positive from others, because they see that I know where I am going, and with negative reactions, I'm able to brush it off, because I know that everyone is different, and we all have our own ways of doing things, and our own way of viewing things.

4. What are your domains of importance?
School
Family
Religion
Food
Balance of fun
Self
Music
Happiness

5. What is the "normal-curve" that is referenced in the Reducing the Availability of Social Comparison Cues? How does it apply to grading practices? Do you agree with the method outlined, "avoiding grading that allows only a few students to achieve high grades?"
I have looked into this and read the article, and I really cannot find the answer to this question.

Eating Well on the Cheap

1. What are the differences between canned fruit or vegetables and fresh fruit or vegetables?

There isn't much of a difference between canned and fresh fruit and vegetables. If the fruit is canned in 100% juice and frozen vegetables have the same nutritional value. And then, for those who don't eat the fresh food before it goes bad, you don't have to eat it right away. And it contains the nutritional value.

2. What "convenience" foods do you enjoy? Why should you try to avoid them?

Top Ramen is a convenience food that I enjoy. I think that if I replace them with real food like whole wheat pasta, it increases the nutritional value.
Sonic's grilled cheese sandwiches: homemade grilled cheese sandwiches with real cheese and whole wheat bread.
I think that I should try and avoid them because there are better foods just like them that can be homemade and the nutritional value of the meal will increase.

3. What tips can you give your parents from this article?

To not worry about time. Give time for planning, and time for spending in the store. To purchase healthier foods going around what is already in the pantry, fridge, etc. When buying food, go with a plan and to not go in isles that will bring temptations to purchase things that aren't necessary and aren't the healthiest choices.

Choose Your 200 Calories

What 200 calories looks like

Which food do you think has the most calories? How did you come to this conclusion?

Butter
Gummy bears
Canola oil

I came to this conclusion because it doesn't take very much canola oil, or butter to make up 200 calories. Especially compared to some of the other foods.

Which food has the least amount of calories? How did you come to this conclusion?

Apples
Celery
Mini Peppers
Onions

I came to this conclusion due to the comparison to the foods with higher amounts of calories. It takes a higher amount of food to reach the 200 caloric amount than some of the other foods.

Which food surprises you the most? Why?

Mini peppers
Peanut butter

I couldn't just choose one that surprised me the most. I chose these two in speaking of a comparison. There's only a little amount of peanut butter compared to an over flowing plate of mini peppers.

Situations such as;
School
Work
Peer pressure
Change
Fear
Expectations
Isolation
Tiredness
Anxiety

2. What is happening in your body when you are stressed?
There is activation in the nervous system and specific hormones. Hormones speed up heart rate, breathing rate, blood pressure and metabolism. 5. Have you experienced eustress? When?
I have experienced eustress. I'm in a choir that performs twice a year in front of a few thousand people. Before our performance we usually spend all day rehearsing, setting up the stage, and just making sure that we will be ready for the performances. And usually during that practice time and shortly leading up to it, I get nervous, excited and stressed all at the same time. Stressed because there are a lot of people watching, but excited because I really enjoy singing in the choir.

6. How can health and fitness influence stress?
It will help because eating the right foods nourish your body. Giving you energy. A workout provides an immediate stress relief. It can focus your thoughts in the moment relieving your mind from stress.

Listen to them.
Be supportive

Emotional Intelligence Quiz

 1. What was your predicted score?
I predict that out of 20, I will score a 15.
2. What was your actual score on the quiz?
19/20
3. List 5 things you learned from the quiz.
A duchenne smile, which signals happiness. It’s defined by two muscle movements. The movement common to all smiles is the zygomatic major muscle pulling the lip corners up. But, critically, what reveals this as a genuine smile is what happens around the eyes: The muscles tighten, making those wrinkles, or crow’s feet, around the sides of the eyes and creating that pouching of the lower eyelid.

~ In the lips, around the eyes, and in the brow—when people are feeling aggressive, threatened, or frustrated. Researchers think we make this expression when we're angry because it could protect the face in a physical conflict—for example, the furrowed eyebrows could protect the eyes. People often confuse anger and disgust, but disgust involves a raised upper lip and a wrinkle in the nose that you don’t see here.

~ Pride involves signs of dominance. The corners of the lips rise slightly, signaling that the person is happy. But what distinguishes this from happiness is that the head tilts back, with a slight jaw-thrust. Those are classic signs of power and dominance—they suggest that we’re feeling strong.
The expression of pride is also close to the expression of contempt. They both involve a backward head tilt, but contempt doesn't involve a slight smile like pride does; instead, with contempt the lip movement is asymmetrical—only one side tightens.

~ Surprise is often confused with fear. But when we’re afraid, our lower eyelids tighten and our eyebrows look flat and tense; with surprise, our upper eyelids rise up and our eyebrows arch. Also, our jaws drop when we’re surprised, but our lip corners go sideways when we’re afraid, making the mouth look tighter.
Some experts believe our eyes open wide like this because when we’re confronted with something surprising—a long-lost friend, an unexpected award—we try to absorb as much of this new information as possible.

~ What conveys flirtatiousness is when someone turns his or her head away to signal ‘I’m not interested in you,’ but simultaneously makes eye contact. That’s a universal display that reflects the ambivalence of flirtation—the flirter avoids and approaches someone at the same time.
Someone flirting gives off signals of pleasure, as indicated by the zygomatic major muscle pulling the lip corners up, which also raises the cheeks slightly.
